Welcome to BRICKS — We are a non-hierarchical group of Trans Femmes living and working in solidarity with each other in The Yukon.

Our Values:

  • Autonomy & Independence.

  • Intersectionality.

  • Self & Community Preservation.

We are radical, not reactionary. Our work is inherently anti-fascist.

We are building a community of Trans Women, Trans Femmes, and those affected by Transmisogyny in The Yukon. We believe that our collective strength and creativity will manifest an emergent system of care that our community needs.

We will not stand for the erasure of Trans Feminine voices in so called “Queer & Trans” spaces. We will not comply with a status quo that would see assimilation as liberation. Abolition is the path we tread. Our independence and autonomy from systemic power is sacred. As such, we will not endorse the activities of any organization that operates within the system of white supremacy. We will not sign any agreement that ties us to the needs of funders instead of the need of our community. We will never be a business, or a non-profit. There are no hierarchies here, only passionate Trans Femmes working cooperatively together.

Who are we?

Trans Woman defines a Gender.

Trans Femme or Transfem defines a culture/expression, a way of being, and a way of being perceived.

Transmisogyny Affected (TMA) describes the shared experience of those who experience transmisogyny. It is the unique way that systems such as government, health care, and the prison industrial complex violently police trans feminine bodies. Through state sanctioned violence and oppression these systems perpetuate cisnormativity, compulsory heterosexuality, and white supremacy.

Almost all of it is invisible to those who are TME (Transmisogyny exempt).

What is Transmisogyny?

Transmisogyny is the cultural and systemic treatment of Trans Femininity in our society, and yet it’s not a word that many people know about or understand. It is the negative attitudes expressed through cultural/societal hatred, individual and state violence, and discrimination directed toward trans women, trans, and gender non-conforming people on the feminine end of the gender spectrum. Transmisogyny is the confluence of Transphobia & Misogyny:

  • Transphobia is discrimination of and the negative attitudes toward transgender people based on their gender expression.

  • Misogyny The hatred and denigration of women and characteristics deemed feminine. The central belief is that Femininity is considered inferior to masculinity and requires patriarchal protection.
